Finally the long, hot, humid summer is drawing to a close in Australia. This means we can soon head back out to the central Queensland region to discover new opals.

A lot of time and planning goes into each trip. With plenty of rain in Queensland over the last 2 years, keeping tabs on which roads are open and making sure it's safe to travel is a priority. We also need to judge how likely it is we can top up food and fuel supplies on a regular basis.

The 2025 floods brought thick swarms of flies across the region, turning the days into a buzzing nuisance. Thankfully, the vast blue skies, open horizons, and spectacular sunsets restore the sense of beauty just as quickly. To any flies reading this, please head elsewhere this season ;-)

Can't wait to see what we'll find in 2026 !
